Are ZIP/ZCTA areas the same as USPS ZIP Codes?

No. ZCTAs are Census geographic approximations of ZIP Code areas for mapping and analysis. They are not official USPS delivery boundaries.

How are top areas ranked?

The best overall score combines living score, home value percentile, and safety score. Users can change the weights with sliders and choose one ranked outline set at a time to keep the map readable.

The map compares ACS home values, an official crime context layer, and a living index proxy. The interactive version lets you search U.S. cities, ZIP codes, places, and addresses, then reloads available ACS tract and Census ZIP/ZCTA layers for that area.

Crime uses Colorado Springs Police Department public records inside Colorado Springs and embedded official 2024 BJS/FBI NIBRS state baselines elsewhere so the crime layer no longer depends on a slow live FBI API call.
