The short version: We collect only what's needed to make Roulette Night work — your location to find nearby venues, your email to create your account, and your preferences to personalize your experience. We don't sell your data. We don't track you across apps. We're here to help you have a great night out, not to monetize your personal information.
Roulette Night ("we," "us," "our") is a mobile application that helps users discover restaurant and activity pairings for their evening plans. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app and related services.
Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and, optionally, your first name. We use Clerk as our authentication provider. You sign in with a one-time email code — we never store passwords.
Location Data: When you use Roulette Night, you provide a location (city, zip code, or address) so we can find nearby restaurants and activities. This location is sent to our servers to query venue data. We do not access your device's GPS or track your location in the background. You choose what location to search each time.
Usage Data: We store your spin history (which venues were suggested, which mode you used, your filter preferences) to improve your experience — showing your recent results, avoiding repeated suggestions, and powering your favorites list.
Favorites and Saved Plans: When you save a venue or plan, we store that on our servers so it syncs across your sessions.
Payment Information: Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store) through RevenueCat, our subscription management provider. We never see, process, or store your credit card number, billing address, or other payment details. We only receive confirmation of your subscription status.
Device Information: We may collect basic device information (platform, app version) for troubleshooting and to ensure compatibility.
We use your information to operate and improve Roulette Night:
Finding venues: Your chosen location and filter preferences are sent to Google Places API to find nearby restaurants and activities. Your preferences are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI to curate and pair venue suggestions.
Personalizing your experience: Your spin history helps us avoid repeating venues. Your favorites and saved plans are stored so you can access them anytime.
Managing your account: Your email is used for sign-in and, if needed, to contact you about important changes to the service.
Improving the service: We use aggregated, anonymized usage data (popular modes, common locations, spin counts) to understand how people use the app and make it better.
Roulette Night relies on the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
Clerk (authentication): Manages your account sign-in. Clerk Privacy Policy
Google Places API (venue data): Provides restaurant and activity information, photos, ratings, and addresses. Google Privacy Policy
Anthropic Claude AI (curation): Processes your location and preferences to generate venue pairing recommendations. Anthropic does not use your data to train their models. Anthropic Privacy Policy
RevenueCat (subscriptions): Manages subscription status between the app stores and our service. RevenueCat Privacy Policy
OpenWeatherMap (weather): We may check current weather conditions at your chosen location to improve activity suggestions (e.g., suggesting indoor activities during rain). OpenWeatherMap Privacy Policy
Railway (hosting): Our servers and database are hosted on Railway. Railway Privacy Policy
Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Railway's infrastructure. We use encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data transmission. Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device using platform-native secure storage.
We retain your account data for as long as you have an active account. Spin history is retained to power your recent results and avoid repeated suggestions.
Delete your account: You can delete your account at any time from the Profile tab in the app. This permanently removes your data from our database and your account from Clerk. This action cannot be undone.
Manage favorites: You can remove any saved favorite or plan from the My Places screen.
Cancel subscriptions: Subscriptions can be managed and cancelled through your device's app store settings (Apple Settings → Subscriptions, or Google Play → Subscriptions).
Data portability: If you'd like a copy of your data, contact us at the email below.
Roulette Night is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll update the effective date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
